Why is it customary to retrieve stuck equipment by applying shock loads only along the axis of the well? After all practical life experience suggests that in order to extract, for example, a hammered nail, it is better not just to pull it, but to pull it with a simultaneous turn. It is obvious that the equipment stuck in the well is also easier to retrieve if not only shock loads are applied to it along the axis of the well but also impact torque. To solve this problem we have mastered the production of torsional jars “SHOCK TURN” which can act on the object stuck in the well with impacts clockwise, counterclockwise, as well as impacts up or down in various combinations.
The main advantages of the SHOCK TURN jars are:
- The power capacity of torsional jars is much higher compared to conventional ones due to the use of an additional energy source – elastic torsion strain;
- Allows combining axial impacts with torsional impacts, which increases the likelihood of retrieving a stuck object;
- Left-hand design allows retrieving the stuck equipment in parts;
- Torque is transmitted through the string with less friction loss than axial load. Therefore the efficiency of the torsional jar in deviated and horizontal wellbores is higher;
- Compact design for easy delivery to hard-to-reach areas.
