Hydromechanical rotary-steerable system RSS-GM-195 is a proprietary original development of “BURINTEKH”, Ltd protected by patents. The principle of operation is based on hydromechanics without using complex electric drives and electronics. Compatible with widely used MWD.
System is designed for steerable drilling directional and horizontal wells with diameters from 220,7 to 222,3 mm.
- RSS – rotary-steerable system
- GM – hydromechanical principle of action
- 195 – nominal outside diameter of body in mm
Rotary steerable system includes:
- Geostationary body, which does not rotate during directional drilling, including toolface and body centralizer.
- Electronic module with a magnetic tag that allows tracking the orientation of the body during directional drilling.
The toolface unit consists of stabilizing and deflecting slips.
Rotary-steerable system RSS-GM-195 has two modes of operation:
- Hold mode - straight drilling mode. In this mode the shaft is engaged with the body, the deflecting slips are disabled.
By reducing the flow rate to the minimum values and then resuming the flow rate to the operating values, a sequential switch is made to the mode – buildup.
The operating mode from the wellhead is determined by the change in differential pressure in the discharge line by 10-20 atmospheres at a constant operating flow. Differential pressure in buildup mode is always greater than the differential pressure in hold mode.
- In buildup mode the deflecting slips move out and the shaft is disengaged from the body. The deflecting slips resting against the wellbore wall keep the body orientation from turning and deviate the well path.
Features and advantages of the rotary-steerable system RSS-GM-195:
- Compatibility with all types of MWD systems with pulser-up position;
- Fully hydromechanical toolface principle of operation;
- Simple principle of changing operating modes and orienting the direction of drilling;
- Max dogleg severity per 10 meters of meterage is 2.5 degrees;
- The standard size of the used bits is 220,7 – 222,3 mm.
